Adding a special VLAN

Updated over 4 months ago

A virtual local area network (VLAN) is a private network accessible to certain users. In Kube, each company has its own VLAN that its members use. Companies cannot access another company's VLANs.

A special VLAN is a virtual local area network that is used to add shared devices, throttle connection speed for guest users, and for troubleshooting. Kube comes with preset special VLANs for voice, wireless application protocol (WAP), guest, and utility networks.

This article is part of the Kube data-Wi-Fi setup flow. For more information, see Kube setup checklist.

NOTES:

  • If your organization has not purchased Kube IT Management or higher, Kube does not show data/Wi-Fi information.

  • Depending on your assigned role and permissions, and the version of Kube your organization uses, some or all of these menus or services may not be available or displayed.

  • After you add a special VAN, you can click the special VLAN's name to see more information about it, such as the devices connected and the network settings.

  • If you are unsure of the special VLAN settings to use, contact your IT department or Yardi technical support.

To add a special VLAN

  1. Select Properties in the top menu.

  2. Locate the property in the grid and click the property's name. The Property Spaces screen appears.

  3. Select Setup in the side menu. The Property Essentials screen appears.

  4. Select the Data/Wi-Fi tab and select the Special VLANs onscreen tab.

  5. Click the Add button.

  6. Complete the fields.

NOTE: The VLAN Name is for internal use. The VLAN Type indicates the purpose of the special VLAN. If you are unsure which type to use, contact your IT department or Yardi technical support.

  7. Click Save.

TIP: The next step in the Kube data-Wi-Fi setup process is to add DHCP reservations to the special VLAN. For more information, see Adding a special VLAN DHCP reservation.
